Villa Mautner-Häger
- Landstraßer Hauptstraße 140-142,1030 Wien
Anyone who has ever gave way along the Landstraßer Hauptstraße has almost wondered what this enchanted ghost house is actually all about between office buildings and old building complexes. The listed Villa Mautner-Häger seemed to be revealed for years. But now something is happening: the villa should be renovated and then become a private residence for the new owners. But until it is time, it serves as a hotspot for art and culture for a year. The time -honored apostle bath was also extensively renovated last year. You would hardly suspect it from the outside, but inside you can take a sauna in the middle of the third and roar. This is not meant evil, but literally: the apostle pool opened in 1891 is one of the last shower and sauna bikes throughout Vienna. Incidentally, the circuit training gym Hyper Active is located on the top floor, which gets you going with CrossFit similar workouts properly.

More informationOccupation of the slaughterhouse
- Baumgasse 80,1030 Wien
- arena.wien
As is well known, everything happens a little later in Vienna. It is therefore understandable that the “Wiener 1968” only took place in the mid-1970s. Since 1970, the Viennese festival weeks have organized the “Arena” series, for the first time in 1975 on the site of the former St. Marx abroad, which was to be demolished. A year later, visitors remained after the last “Arena” event and thus justified the occupation. On 70,000 square meters, there was a spirit of optimism: concerts, readings, performances were increasingly attracting attention. You could hold the area for three months, in mid -October 1976 the city began to demolish because the site had already been guaranteed by the Schöps textile chain. By the way, the MGC fashion center is located on this area, which in turn is partially used as an event center.
What we know as “Arena Vienna” was originally the domestic slaughterhouse, which the city made available as an alternative option for the new cultural center. Not all of the occupation movement saw the agreement that followed in 1977 as a positive sign - for some it represented a kind of betrayal.

Intermediate uses in Neu Marx
- Karl-Fakas-Gasse,1030 Wien
The relatively new district of Neu Marx was originally part of the slaughterhouses. Incidentally, the two pompous column sculptures are still reminiscent of this if you approach him from Schlachthausgasse: “Central Viehmarkt Stadt Vienna” is on the left, “built by the community 1879 - 1888” on the right. In the meantime, large media houses have compressed the Media Quarter Marx. The Marx Halle spreads only a few meters further.
Between all the newly created, modern, converted, a few free spirits of the high -gloss polish seem to defy. Compared to the Marx Halle, on a open space on which another event hall is to be built, which wants to take the rank to the town hall, committed gardeners have come together to form the community garden. Between multi -purpose buildings and rushing tangent, 35 raised beds are now nestled into the brachial urban area. In this green oasis, in the middle of the concrete steppe, you live diversity and social exchange.

Erdberger city game
At the northern end of this quarter, the urban wasteland came to stay. TheErdberger city gameextends from Maiselgasse to the Media Quarter. Here everything has been growing and thriving wildly, ecological development space since the end of the 90s. You could also say: G'Stettn. The edge that drops from the hill of the city game is also called the Danube base slope, because a few centuries ago a Danube arm took the Erdberger corn (name for a young forest, not for the Kukuruz) in the sweat box before the Danube Canal was straightened.
In the mid -19th century, even a few multi -storey ice cellars were dug in the slope for the St. Marxer brewery, which is why the hill is also called Erdberger Kellerberg. In the early 2000s, illegal GOA parties could occur, parts of the facilities are used by the Vienna Sports Rifle Club today, others are-we have it again. Two line walls that were supposed to protect the Viennese suburbs at the time also merge with the overgrown area.

More informationAspangbahnhof
The Vienna Aspangbahnhof in the 3rd district played a devastating role. During the Second World War, it served as a central place for the deportations of the Jewish population in Vienna and all of Austria in Ghettos and extermination camp in the east. Every week, around 1,000 Jews had to go into the trains here - in the middle of the city and thus demonstrably under the eyes of the population. Between 1939 and 1942, 47,035 people were deported at the Aspangbahnhof from Vienna, and only 1,073 of them survived their martyrdom.
Today the memorial Aspangbahnhof for the victims of the deportation and the place of the victims of the deportation at the Leon-Zelman-Park is reminiscent of the dark history of the reasons for aspang, on which a new district has now been created with the Village in the third.

More informationFlak towers in the arenberg park
The two flak towers in the arenberg park are also reminiscent of the time of National Socialism. While other flak towers in Vienna have now been converted, the two are not accessible in the third. The focal storm is the largest of all Viennese flak towers. For the construction of the battlestorm and the associated fire -mounted tower - the concept of the flak towers stipulates that they are always arranged in pairs - additional connecting tracks were even laid at the Aspangbahnhof at the time so that a field railway could drive directly to the construction site from there. In the early 2000s exhibitions of contemporary art in the tower were shown and the tower itself has already served as an art project, but it is now closed until further notice due to renovation work. Incidentally, the battlestorm houses the depot of the Museum of Applied Arts.
